JGAMail reviews jurisdiction, authenticity, scope, legal basis and required process before disclosure. Overbroad, informal, defective or unauthorized requests may be rejected or narrowed. Content and non-content records may require different legal process.
Required information
- Requester identity, official contact information, agency and jurisdiction.
- Specific JGAMail account/address and date range.
- Type of process, issuing authority, signature and case/reference number.
- Particular records requested and legal basis.
- Return instructions and any nondisclosure authority.
Preservation and emergencies
Preservation requests must identify the account and scope and must be renewed where law requires. Emergency requests must describe the imminent danger of death or serious physical injury, identify the information sought and explain how it addresses the emergency. Emergency submission does not guarantee disclosure.
User notice
JGAMail’s default is to notify affected users before disclosure unless prohibited by valid law, delayed notice is legally authorized, notice would create an emergency risk, or another documented exception applies.
